Running cross country can be tough without the right shoes.

Did you know that out of any recreational sport, runners are some of the most injured people on a consistent basis?

They either have pulled muscles, joint pains, shin splints, ligament issues, and the list goes on and on.

What is the general cause of these injuries?

Honestly, it’s usually a combination of a bunch of different factors, like how much you choose to run in a week, the terrain you choose to run on, etc.

But if there was one big reason why runners get injured, it would be the shoes they wear.

Many runners just don’t pick the right shoes for what they need to be doing. And cross country runners are presented a unique challenge. That challenge is to be able to find a pair of shoes that can support them through all different types of terrains, elevations, distances, and environments.

Because we know it’s difficult to find the best shoes, we have compiled the best shoes you can find for cross country running.

Obviously we have our favorites, but if you pick any of the shoes below we think you’ll be happy, and your legs and overall health will thank you later.

So here we go with our top choices.

You can get them all at www.Endless.com (owned by Amazon.com but better deals.)

#1 Pick

Men’s Shoe

Mens-Wave-Ascend4

Mizuno Men’s Wave Ascend 4

Women’s Shoe

Womens-Wave-Ascend4

Mizuno Women’s Wave Ascend 4

If we had only one shoe to wear ever it would probably be the Mizzuno Wave 4.

You won’t believe how well this shoe fits, on almost anyone. It’s just bizarre on how they’re able to make a shoe that just *fits.* It’s like a magical design that hits all the right spots.

It’s also extremely light, and it moves and flexes in just the way you need in a cross country shoe.

These things are virtually indestructible too, which is very strange because they’re so light, you’d think they would wear out quickly, but the truth is that they outlast almost any other shoe we’ve seen.

And the price is right too, you won’t pay really any more money for the Mizunos vs. any quality running shoe out there.

Hands down, this shoe rocks! And you’d be insane not to give them a shot.

#2 Pick

Men’s Shoe

Mens-GT-2140

ASICS Men’s GT-2140

Women’s Shoe

Womens-GT-2140

ASICS Women’s GT-2140

Our second pick is the ASICS GT-2140, and it’s a formidable competitor to the Mizuno, but really… Nothing touches the Mizuno.

That being said, the GT-2140 has great support, it’s highly breathable and is very light.

If you like padding, and a bit of a “bounce” in your step, then you may like these shoes. Some people don’t like the bounce, others do, it’s probably going to be a personal preference at the end of the day.

#3 Pick

Men’s Shoe

Mens-WT100

New Balance Men’s MT100

Women’s Shoe

Womens-WT100Gg

New Balance Women’s Wt100

New Balance is popular, and for good reason, they’re great shoes, and that’s part of why this specific model (the Wt100) made our list.

They did place third, and only because they seem like they would probably wear out quicker than the other options which makes it OK for people not running extreme long distances, or for people who don’t run on a consistent basis. Or… if you don’t mind buying new shoes more often these may work out for you.

They are lower profile, which can be better for trail running because there is less of a chance of rolling your heel.

They also have less cushion than the ASICS, but some people like that, (we actually prefer less cushion.)

We do really like these shoes, and they are also very light.

#4 Pick

Men’s Shoe

Mens-Cascadia4

Brooks Men’s Cascadia 4

Women’s Shoe

Womens-Cascadia4

Brooks Women’s Cascadia 4

If you like “trendy” looking shoes but need performance too, check out the Cascadia 4 by Brooks. These shoes look a little “out there” but they are work pretty good!

A little too high up for our taste (chance of heel rolling) and a bit heavier than we’d like as well. But overall, still much better than lots of shoes you’ll find at the mall, and if you like the look, even better!

So there you have it, our top 4 choices for cross country running shoes. If you get any of these you won’t be disappointed, that being said, we just have to put another plug in for the Mizuno’s, they rock!
